Phil Gibson, Ph.D.

Philip G. Gibson, Ph.D., is a nationally recognized leader in biotechnology workforce development with more than 37 years of experience advancing talent pipelines across education, industry, government, and economic development.


As Executive Director of the Georgia Life Sciences Institute, Dr. Gibson leads initiatives that connect educators, students, and industry partners to strengthen Georgia’s life sciences workforce. Previously, he served as Director of the Georgia BioScience Training Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to preparing workers for careers in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. In this role, he led the development of the center from inception, overseeing facility design, equipment acquisition, curriculum development, industry partnerships, and training delivery. Under his leadership, the center became a nationally recognized resource for hands-on biomanufacturing education and workforce training.


Dr. Gibson has served as Principal Investigator for a $1.2 million National Science Foundation grant focused on industry-recognized bioscience credentials and has advised workforce development initiatives across the country.


He served as a consultant to the Talent Accelerator, Community College Workforce Alliance, and Brightpoint Community College in Virginia to create a talent pipeline for the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry initiative to reshore pharmaceutical manufacturing to the US. Additionally, he is Advisory Board Chair for Biotility at the University of Florida which provides high quality education, training, and credentialing to facilitate professional growth in the biotechnology and bioscience industries.



Throughout his career, Dr. Gibson has been dedicated to expanding access to education, training, and career opportunities within the life sciences industry.
